Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create a new essay?

Click the + button in the sidebar or use the "Add Essay" option. Enter your essay prompt title, set an optional word limit, and you're ready to start tracking.

How do I import a document?

  1. Go to your essay and click Add Version.
  2. Click Import File.
  3. Select a .txt, .pdf, or .docx file from your Mac.

The file's text content will be imported as a new version of your essay.

Where is my data stored?

All essay data is stored locally on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded to external servers. Your essays, versions, and settings stay on your device.

How do I compare essay versions?

Open an essay with multiple versions and use the Diff View feature. It highlights additions and deletions between any two versions so you can see exactly what changed.

How do I delete an essay?

Select the essay in the sidebar, then use the delete option. This removes the essay and all its versions from your local storage permanently.


Troubleshooting

My imported file looks wrong

EssayFlow imports plain text content. Complex formatting (tables, images, headers, etc.) may be stripped or simplified. For best results, paste your text directly into the version editor.

The app isn't saving my data
